Ingredients for Chocolate Elderberry Tart
The quality of food matters. What goes in your body makes a drastic impact on your overall health. There’s no question about it!
So why does it have to be any different with dessert?
Why can’t dessert be rich and creamy but also healthy and nourishing?
The answer: it can be! It’s all about the ingredients. Simple, wholesome and nothing artificial. Those are the kind of ingredients we’ll be using.
For your tart and elderberry sauce — you’ll only need 6 (probably already in your pantry) ingredients.
Get ready for a silky-smooth texture and sinful chocolate flavor!
Coconut oil — go with organic and unrefined. We’ll use this for greasing your pan.
Coconut milk — full-fat from the can. This is our substitute for heavy whipping cream, and the base of our tart — the glue that holds it all together.
Dark chocolate chips — it wouldn’t be a chocolate tart without dark chocolate! Totally necessary for that rich chocolate indulgence.
Vanilla extract — make sure it’s labeled GF if you’re sensitive to gluten. The vanilla adds a pop of flavor and depth.
Organic elderberry syrup — skip the pesticides and artificial additives and choose organic. This is what we’ll be creating a sauce with!
Arrowroot powder — the little bit of help we need to create our elderberry sauce
Why Elderberry Sauce?
Well — I’m a bit crazy about elderberries. It’s one of the reasons why I’ve become the Elderberry Queen.
Elderberries are gorgeous, immune-boosting berries chock full of antioxidants, flavonoids, nutrients and vitamins.
They help tame inflammation, improve immune health, decrease stress and protect your heart.
They’re most known for their ability to lessen symptoms and shorten the duration of colds and the flu.
Did you know that elderberries are also linked to your gut health?
That’s right! They aid in digestion due to the high amount of fiber they contain. A healthy gut means a healthy immune system.
So c’mon, what’s not to love about elderberries?
I’m always trying to bring elderberries into my kitchen and into our everyday recipes… so why not this delicious flourless chocolate tart as well?
How to Make Flourless Chocolate Tart
First, you’re going to need to grease a springform pan with coconut oil and line it with parchment paper to ensure the tart doesn’t stick at all.
Now it’s time to make the tart.
In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, heat the coconut milk until very warm but not quite boiling.
Place the chocolate chips into a separate bowl.
Then, pour the warm coconut milk over your dark chocolate chips. Stir this mixture gently until everything is melted and well incorporated.
Add your vanilla extract and stir until just combined.
Now you can pour this rich batter into your springform pan and smooth the top.
The last step is to pop your pan into the fridge to let it chill until it’s nice and firm. This takes about 2-3 hours.
The thing that makes chocolate torte so melt-in-your-mouth delicious?
That velvety filling! It never fully hardens, so it’s soft and melts in your mouth instantly. Drooling yet?!
How to Make Elderberry Sauce
This sweet elderberry sauce is the perfect pair to the richness of this chocolate torte.
All you need is organic elderberry syrup and arrowroot powder — that’s it!
Easy, right?
Just add your elderberry syrup and arrowroot powder into a small saucepan and whisk for about 2 minutes. Don’t allow it to get so hot that it boils. As soon as you see it thickening, pull it off the heat.
Transfer to a heat-safe bowl and allow it to slightly cool.
How to Serve Chocolate Elderberry Tart
To serve this delicious chocolate elderberry tart, take it out of the fridge. Gently scrape a knife along the edges of the pan to help release it without breaking.
Remove the sides of the pan. Slice with a hot, dry knife. I like to run it under hot water for a few seconds then dry it quickly with a paper towel before slicing.
Serve with a few spoonfuls of elderberry sauce drizzled on top.
For big parties, I like to cut this into little mini squares and add a simple dollop of sauce on each one. It’s perfect for a dessert bar too!
Topping Ideas
This chocolate elderberry tart is splendid with a sprinkle of coarse salt and a spoonful of elderberry sauce, but there are a variety of toppings you could add to make this on point with your tastebuds!
Here are some suggestions:
- Whipped cream
- Ice cream
- Fresh fruit
- Crushed nuts
Tips for Success
- Use good quality chocolate! I use Enjoy Life dark chocolate chips. When the entire recipe depends on chocolate, you won’t want to skimp. Go for the good stuff.
- Dark pans are best. For one reason or another, I don’t get the same results with glass pans. Stick with a dark round cake pan or springform pan.
- Don’t over stir. The consistency will be different and not as creamy. It’s best to stop mixing as soon as ingredients are mixed.
How Long Is It Good For?
Covered at room temperature, this tart will keep for 5 days. In the fridge, it’s good for 2 weeks.
Does This Flourless Chocolate Tart Freeze Well?
This tart freezes incredibly well! Just wrap it in plastic wrap and it’s good for up to 4 months in your freezer.
