How To Soothe Sore Throats Naturally
Maybe you’ve caught a cold or the flu? Or maybe you’re suffering from allergies? Either way — sore throats are the absolute worst! Scratchy and painful… ugh! No thank you.
Are you looking for something different than store-bought cough drops? If you’ve glanced at the ingredients list, I don’t blame you one bit. I’m right there with you — I’m sticking with real ingredients that I can actually pronounce.
Plus, some of those other ingredients are proven to knock down your immune system… so why would you want that in your body? Especially when you’re trying to get healthy!
These Homemade Elderberry Cough Drops soothe your throat naturally while also providing immune-boosting benefits.
The best part about them? You can make them right in your kitchen using just 3 ingredients. Nothing questionable. Just real natural ingredients.
Coconut oil, honey, and organic elderberry syrup. It’s as simple as that!
Keep in mind, these aren’t your traditional hard cough drops. Most cough drops (even homemade), are made from boiling honey. When you boil honey, you lose those incredible benefits. So we decided to craft a different kind of recipe!
These gorgeous gems are smooth and melt in your mouth — coating your throat to soothe and ease swelling quickly.
Health Benefits of Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is a delicious superfood and it’s come out on top recently. It smells great, feels luxurious, heals wounds, and is the primary ingredient in natural skincare.
No wonder It’s praised for its versatility and health benefits.
You’re probably wondering what it does for your body that’s so incredible, so let’s dig into all the remarkable health benefits.
Coconut oil is a heart-healthy fat. Yes, it’s considered saturated fat but it also has healthy fatty acids. These fatty acids boost energy to both your body and brain.
The benefits don't stop there! It’s also used as a treatment for Alzheimer’s, prevents heart disease and high blood pressure, and reduces inflammation. This superfood even improves memory, brain function, and immune health.
Health Benefits of Raw Honey
Winnie the Pooh was definitely onto something! Yes, honey is delicious to use as a natural sweetener, but it does so much more than that.
Raw honey has been used throughout history for medicinal purposes. It’s still used today to heal wounds in some hospitals around the world.
Raw Honey is also a great source of antioxidants and has been shown to kill unwanted bacteria and fungus. It also helps with digestive issues and soothes a sore throat.
Types of Honey:
- Raw Honey — this type of honey comes straight from the hive. It’s the least processed and chock full of antioxidants.
- Pasteurized Honey — this type has been processed to remove impurities and extend its shelf life. It’s lost most of its health benefits at this point.
Remember, children under the age of 1 should avoid all honey.
We’re using raw honey in our recipe because we want the delicious flavor along with every bit of the health benefits.
Health Benefits of Elderberry Syrup
Elderberries come from the Sambucus Nigra plant. They’re naturally high in antioxidants, flavonoids, nutrients, and vitamins. Elderberries are typically dried and are used in a vast variety of home remedies these days, but my favorite is organic elderberry syrup. Obviously! 🤣
Elderberry syrup is one of the most well-known go-to remedies for colds and the flu. There’s a good reason too!
If you or a family member has had a rough case of a cold or the flu, you get it! It spreads throughout your home like a wildfire and there’s very little that conventional medicine can do.
Thank goodness for natural remedies! Studies have shown that elderberries can prevent and ease cold and flu symptoms. They have also been shown to reduce the duration of a cold or the flu by two days.

Yay! So happy you love them as much as we do June! :)
I have tried these and they’re great! I go sparingly with honey as I eat a Ketogenic diet. That said, when I get a dry throat (I live in a dusty, dry area) and the allergens are really high, I pop one of these to soothe the dry throat and overwhelming allergens floating around!!! Thank you!!!!😊
